The undergraduate programme BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching and Physical Education combines academic knowledge with an “applied” nature, which means that there is a focus on ensuring students to develop the necessary knowledge, skills and experience required to be attractive to potential employers upon graduation. This is achieved through developing a broad-based up-to-date subject knowledge, strong communication skills, and relevant work-based skills. Coupled with this is the need for students to find opportunities to develop and refine these skills in real-life situations, while developing external contacts with those already deployed in the professional sports coaching environment, and to reflect upon that experience in a relevant and professional way. Skilled, active and qualified coaches are nowadays necessary in order to support and guide the improvement of children, players and athletes at all stages of their development.
