ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Most of our students have successfully completed a Foundation Course in Art and Design. Foundation courses run at the AAS College. Students enter the course from Foundation Art and Design and other pre degree art and design courses from colleges and schools. All students are interviewed with a portfolio of artwork. The interview focuses on your interests and ambitions in the visual arts.
Other acceptable qualifications include:
- International Baccalaureate
- BTEC National Certificate/Diploma

Applications from individuals with non-standard qualifications, relevant work or life experience and who can demonstrate the ability to cope with and benefit from degree-level studies are welcome.

DESCRIPTION

We offer students the unique opportunity to study on one of the most well-established BA(Hons) Graphic Design in Europe, taught by a highly committed professional teaching team. Over time the course has developed a strong reputation with its students winning many awards in national student competitions and with its graduates winning awards in national and European competitions.
The lecturers on the Graphic Design team are all working in the design industry and combine teaching with their own professional practice providing students with a current insight into design business. The staff offers a diverse range of specialist knowledge of corporate identity, advertising, magazine design, packaging and typography combined with technical skills such as computers and letterpress.

Programme of Study
The programme of study is focused on generating creative ideas for a range of challenging briefs. Lectures, seminars and tutorials are used to introduce, develop and synthesise the various elements of the course. There is a commitment to intellectually stimulating assignment where students generate ideas for a wide range of graphic design applications: corporate identity, branding, advertising, packaging, direct mail, magazines, brochures editorial and many other forms of print based media.

Course Content
The learning and teaching strategy is designed to challenge existing methods of generating ideas and problem solving by setting briefs that stimulate creative thinking and encourage risk taking. Each brief sets out a specific design problem and will be taught through lectures, group seminars, practical demonstrations, one to one tutorials and critiques, followed by guided self-study.
Year 1 encourage students to think creatively by generating ideas for a wide range of graphic design projects covering corporate identity, packaging, advertising, direct mail and other forms of print based media. Students enjoy working on these projects in a lively atmosphere in the College’s graphic design studios.

In year 2 students learn to develop the use of visual language in solving problems and explore the relationship between words and image. Computer lessons are scheduled to enhance the studio work and contextual studies relates to industry practice and theory.

In the final year, students work on personal projects and competition briefs which are exhibited in the degree show and contribute to their portfolio of work, ready for job interviews.

INFORMATION

We have an excellent employment record with previous graduates working for some of the Greece’s top Graphic Design agencies while others have established their own creative design companies. Many graduates have successful careers within the wide area of Graphic Design, from advertising agencies to multi-disciplinary design groups. Other career opportunities exist within general design consultancies, in-house design studios, printing, education or freelance work. Our students also successfully progress onto MA Degrees.
