We have a strong tradition of commitment to innovative garment design, and development of in-depth research skills, which we believe produces competent, creative individual designers who are very employable. Womenswear and Menswear design are covered in this three year course by: research skills; design development; range building; pattern cutting- traditional and experimental; professional production techniques; knitwear design; 'live' projects with industry; fashion illustration and presentation techniques; CAD Design; flat drawing, trend prediction; fabric exploration; preparation for industry; and design history. You will have the opportunity to transform your two dimensional design ideas into creative clothes.

Course Content
BA(Hons) Fashion Design is centred upon active learning. Students will be engaged in a wide variety of activities.
The programme is supporting by a highly skilled and experienced staff team and is complimented by a variety of guest lecturers and industry visits.
Students will be studio based and have access to the workshops for garment construction with specialist technicians. Other specialist facilities include a well equipped CAD studio. We also have photographic support with excellent technician back-up.
Year One students enrolled on BA (hons) Fashion are introduced to the broad area of fashion design and are encouraged to an experimental approach to it. Projects involve: visual research, drawing and presentation, an introduction to fashion ideas and to fundamental techniques in cut, knit and embellishment. Complementary modules are made up from areas within historical and sociological studies which provide a context for fashion, together with an elective of their choice.

Year Two introduces students to the fashion industry and requires innovative solutions to a series of market related challenges. Projects involve ‘live’ projects, and preparation of a portfolio of work. Complementary studies in the History of Art and Design continue, with ‘in-house’ electives in pattern cutting and experimental knitwear.

Year Three encourages students to work in an independent manner throughout a series of guided and highly individual projects. These are for inclusion in personal portfolios and for national and international competitions. As a final module, students design and produce a collection of six to eight outfits aimed to be showcased on a catwalk.
