The era of medical genetics and genomic medicine has arrived. Technological advances have enabled genome-centered analysis thus transforming research and clinical applications. Medical genetics and genomics are being adopted for patient care, for disease diagnosis and prognosis. From sequence analysis to microarrays, an unprecedented amount of medical information is being generated, posing a big challenge in terms of analysis and interpretation.
The aim of the Medical Genetics and Genomics postgraduate programme is to offer students an extensive knowledge in Medical Genetics and Genomics, helping them to understand the genetic background of many diseases, including cancer. The programme provides knowledge on recombinant DNA techniques, bioinformatics and high-throughput technologies. Students will be equipped with an in-depth understanding of the medical “omics” discipline and acquire bioinformatics skills to deploy current technologies for genetics analysis and diagnosis in the health sector. They also learn to use a range of professional packages to perform advanced analysis techniques in genomic research.
