The Department is an interdisciplinary academic unit dedicated to the study of the Mediterranean world from antiquity to the modern era. Founded in 1997, the Department has grown into a vibrant academic community where new ideas and creative thinking thrive within a well-structured and constantly evolving learning environment. It stands out as the only Department of Mediterranean Studies in Greece and one of the few of its kind worldwide. It hosts six research laboratories, participates in international collaborations and maintains a strong portfolio of funded projects. Through its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, the Department promotes the systematic and comparative study of the ancient Mediterranean cultures as well as the political, social and economic development of the Mediterranean countries and their transnational relations. Its modern, well-equipped facilities, situated next to the medieval city in the center of Rhodes, offer a harmonious blend of culture, beauty and academic engagement.
