The Programme focuses on an interdisciplinary study of the cultures that developed in the Eastern Mediterranean region from prehistoric to Byzantine/medieval times, applying basic principles of the disciplines of Archaeology, History and Classical Literature.

The content of the Programme concerns the examination of the archaeological and historical sources of Greek civilisation and the cultures that developed in the wider area of the eastern Mediterranean (Egypt, Near and Middle East) during the prehistoric, classical and Byzantine/medieval periods. Emphasis is placed on the Aegean and the eastern Mediterranean of the Stone and Bronze Ages, the ancient Greek and Roman mediterranean world and the cultures of ancient Egypt and the Near East. It also presents in detail the archaeology and art from the early Byzantine to the late Byzantine period, as well as the medieval history of Rhodes and the eastern Mediterranean. The curriculum also offers courses on the application of science to Archaeology, Ancient History, Greek Literature and Linguistics, as well as the study of modern Greek language. In this way, students are provided with a comprehensive overview of the history of the peoples of the Eastern Mediterranean and their cultural development over time.

The aim of the Programme is the acquisition of academic qualifications in the fields of Archaeology and History, specialising in the cultures that developed over time in Greece and the wider Eastern Mediterranean, from prehistory to the recent past. The course also aims at acquiring a holistic knowledge of the ancient civilizations of the eastern Mediterranean, through the familiarization of students with archaeological remains, written sources and literary texts. Through systematic study and the development of critical thinking and research, the Programme seeks to produce new knowledge and to promote research and innovation, to promote the rich cultural heritage of Rhodes, Greece and the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as to promote international interest in Greek studies.
