DESCRIPTION

The MSc Degree in Human Resource Management (University of Greater Manchester), which is offered in collaboration with the University of Bolton, is designed to ensure successful careers for its graduates in HRM in businesses and organizations.

Curriculum

  • Research Study and Skills - This module supports your success in the HRM programme as a whole and allows you to develop your academic skills, including writing, computer literacy and presentation skills.
  • Strategic HRM – This context module will provide you with a sound and critical understanding of the key issues of management of human capital within an organisation.
  • Organizational Design, Management & Leadership - The main objective of the module is to provide necessary knowledge and skills that are required for achieving high level of efficiency and effectiveness within the organization. The module will focus on the importance of appropriate management and leadership skills as significant determinants of organisational design and development.
  • Recruitment & Retention – The aim of the module is to enable students to understand all key aspects related to the recruitment and retention of employees. The module will cover techniques and approaches which are essential for effective recruitment, including best practices, evaluation and selection.
  • Organizational Behaviour & Culture - The module will examine a wide range of topics in organisational behaviour and management. It will also discuss the key concepts of organisational culture: the set of values and beliefs within an organisation shaping appropriate behaviour patterns within an organisation.
  • Research Methods – This module directly precedes the dissertation and will enable you to develop a research proposal, a more fully developed version of which will form the first three chapters of your dissertation. It will allow you to make informed decisions about which research philosophies, strategies and methods are suitable for your research.
  • Industrial Relations, Negotiations & Law - The module examines the complex aspects of employment relationships, internally (e.g. relationship between employees and employers) and externally (e.g. the relationship between a business organisation and the state).
  • Reward & Recognition – The module introduces and explains into detail the key objectives of performance management systems. It covers topics related to employees’ performance appraisal and, subsequently, the provision of appropriate reward.
  • Dissertation - The dissertation provides you with the opportunity to conduct extensive and substantive research. It allows students to synthesize their academic knowledge, gained from the taught modules and to generate an evaluation and critical discussion of a strategic issue relevant to the organisation.

Full-Time: 8 months classes + 6 months supervised independent study for the Dissertation.

Part-Time: 16 months classes + 6 months supervised independent study for the Dissertation.
